In All In, we talk about the movement capabilities introduced by Zeynep Tufekci. We see that different capabilities can be covered by different movement actors in ways that can mutually feed into each other strategically.
This kind of “harvesting diversity” is one of the essential aspects of movement-level strategy and organization.
Movement Learning Catalyst, a joint project of European Alternatives, European Community Organising Network, Ulex Project and activist researchers at the National University of Ireland Maynooth, produced a Guide to Learning Systemic Change. In this Guide, we want to highlight the following learning activity titled “Playing with power abilities”. The Guide uses a different typology introduced by Marshall Ganz and further developed by Daniel GutiĆ©rrez.
*
This 60-minute exercise focuses on understanding and identifying the power abilities of groups and organisations within the context of social movements, coalitions, or workplaces. It encourages reflective assessment of strengths, weaknesses, and critical areas for development to enhance strategic positioning and alliance-building across borders. Participants will engage in interactive exercises to explore different power abilities and ways to enable more effective collaboration and impact.
